Bob Dixon (He/Him)
Bob was raised in Northern Kentucky on the edge of the suburbs and the country. A seemingly endless stretch of woods connected to his backyard set the tone for his relationship to the natural world. It became a place to retreat to and explore a mix of stillness and adventure. He followed that curiosity and wound up spending much more time in much larger forests. He studied music in college, thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, received a degree in geography, and after moving to Louisville, KY, met his wife, Rebecca. Together they traveled the Americas, farmed in Pennsylvania, made home in Washington, DC, and currently reside in Louisville on the edge of Iroquois Park. He has followed his urge to explore and learn as much as he can about the world he inhabits and has been using music to process his reflections on what he has experienced, using found sounds, imagery and a cornucopia of instruments. After years of being on the move he has found an appreciation for developing knowledge of a specific place on a deeper level, shifting his focus from observations of different distances to observations of one place over time. With Samara Retreats he hopes to be able to share knowledge of a place with others and help them see it and listen to it in new ways. He wants to help spread appreciation for this land we are currently occupying. It has so much beauty and supports life so well.
Bob teaches Computer Science at Seneca HS, has served on the board of the Food Literacy Project for five years, plays in multiple bands, enjoys creating bead patches for hats and can usually be found roaming the trails in Iroquois Park or working in the garden.
